Clos Apalta 2017 has earned 100 points for the third time
2020
We are happy and proud to announce that Clos Apalta 2017 has earned 100 points for the third time by famed American journalist and wine critic James Suckling.
This recognition represents an unprecedented achievement for Chile and joins the perfect scores given by James Suckling for the 2014 and 2015 harvests; and the recognition as “Wine of the Year” when its 2005 vintage was chosen TOP # 1 by the Wine Spectator magazine, Clos Apalta the only South American wine that has received this award. In addition, the 2000 and 2001 vintages were also positioned as TOP 3 and TOP 2 respectively in the same magazine.
In the report written based on his annual visit to Chile in February, in which he tasted more than 1,000 wines from all over the country, James described Clos Apalta 2017 with these words : “ What a stunning nose of crushed berries, fresh flowers, sandalwood and light vineyard dust. Black olives, too. Very complex. Full-bodied with a beautiful, dense palate of blackberries, chocolate, walnuts and cigar box. Fantastic length and composure. The tannin just rolls over the palate. Very structured. The most classically structured wine ever from here. Goes on for minutes. Outrageous and so polished. A blend of 48% carmenere, 26% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 1% petit verdot. ”
Currently, the team behind the creation of Clos Apalta is led by Charles de Bournet, son of the founders and Seventh Generation of the Bournet-Lapostolle family, Jacques Begarie, Technical Director and world renowned consultant winemaker Michel Rolland. Clos Apalta is born from centuries-old organic and biodynamic vineyards, located in the hills and foothills of the Apalta Valley. Composed mainly of Carmenère, accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a recognized Bordeaux style, it is made in its iconic gravity cellar located on the slopes of the valley.
